New Year's Poker Ride

After the last poker ride went so well, GravelTech is pleased to announce the New Year's Day Poker Ride.

What: A group ride/pub crawl stopping at four bars. Riders are dealt cards along the way. We're changing the rules a little to mix things up. The basic idea is that at the last stop you'll have to find another rider with a hand that compliments yours and combine cards to make the best hand possible.
When: Sunday January 1st, meet at 3pm, ride at 3:15pm. Hopefully, you'll be able to shake off that hang over by then
Where: Meet on the Esplanade, under the Hawthorne Bridge's east end.

Thanksgiving Poker Ride was a blast!

I'm pleased to tell you that GravelTech's first poker ride was a raging success. I had two fears going into it, that no-one would show up or that 50 people would show up. Happily neither was the case. The fine folks at the Willy Week even saw fit to designate it their Saturday pick for the outdoors section.

NOISE and Zombie Holocaust

Saturday, October 29th was another, excellent day to be a cyclist in Portland with a full day of riding in two events. The first was an urban single-speed mountain bike ride and the second, a zombie themed alleycat.

Memorial Ride for Kristine

There's going to be a memorial ride for Kristine tonight. People are meetin up at Berbati's from 17:00-17:30. I'm told it'll be a pretty short ride.

I ended up talking to someone from KGW about Kristine. They'll be airing a story on her tonight at 6pm. They'd seen the photos and contacted me to find someone who'd speak with them. I wish I could have found someone who knew her better. It was a pretty short deadline and couldn't find anyone who knew her and really wanted to talk to them so I stepped up. If anyone can tape it I'm interested in seeing how it turned out.

NOISE 2003

A brisk gray Portland Saturday morning served as a setting for the N.O.I.S.E. (Northwest One-speed International Solidarity Event). While the international single-speed jet set rode in the glowing Australian spring, twenty-odd dedicated derelicts assembled in North Portland to ride to the secret rally spot for some off road fun. After riding five miles to Pier Park, they swilled cheap beer, smoked too many cigarettes and talked smack until the junior high school cross-country runners cleared the trail. When the Black Cats exploded the riders were off in a Le-Mans running start, and four laps to glory.
